What will the resolution be of the scan?

We only offer the best quality services, so we scan at 4K (4,000 DPI). Every slide ends up with a pixel resolution of 5270 X 3566. The approximate file size of each digitally scanned slide is 112MB for an uncompressed TIFF image or 17 MB for a JPEG image. If you choose to upload to a DVD-ROM data disc you can fit about 44 TIFF files or 250 JPEG files.

What can I do with high resolution files?

Besides having extremely high resolution images for archiving, you can create high-quality prints from your digitized slides. Below is a chart of print sizes and the minimum resolution needed for each. The higher resolution your file contains, the more detail the print will contain.

Image Resoltuion Output Print
Less than 640 x 480 Wallet
640 x 480 4 x 6 (min.)
1024 x 768 4 x 6 (better)
1152 x 864 5 x 7 (min.)
1600 x 1200 8 x 10 (min.)

What file formats can my slides be saved in?

Your slides can be transferred to DVD-ROM or hard drive as digital files. You can opt to have these files be output to TIFF, JPEG, JPEG 200, BMP, PICT, PNG, PSD format. Feel free to contact us to discuss which format will meet your needs.

Besides having still images created, do you offer any other services?

Yes! We can create slideshows from your digital files for viewing with a DVD or Blu-ray player. The high-definition Blu-ray format maximizes the resolution for crystal-clear image quality. We can make disk copies for you to share with family and friends. If you would like to edit your slides into a movie, we can provide a digital AVI or MOV file.

What is Digital ICE Technology?

This technology can identify defects (scratches and dust) independently of the picture data. The resulting defect map is then used to correct the damaged or obscured parts of the image. The use of the defect correction technology can produce scans from unusable, scratched or mishandled film at a quality that is close to the state of the original image.

Before After

Using the Digital ICE technology automatically allows us to remove surface defects, such as dust and scratches, from a scanned image. Digital ICE differentiates itself from software-only solutions because it does not soften, blur, or otherwise alter any underlying details or composition of the original image. Instead, the patented Digital ICE Technology works from within the scanner, during the scanning process, to provide users with a clear, authentic base image that improves the original image. This technology allows your slides and memories to be restored to their original state, before time and the environment were able to degrade their quality.
